I hope everyone has something to be thankful for this year. Be it family, work, accomplishments, whatever.
For me this past year has been interesting and challenging. A few weeks ago, my stepmother Mary passed away. She was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer about a year ago. Her health declined the past three months or so and I had become her caregiver and general overseer of her day to days. It wasn't always an easy job. But she was worth every moment I could give.
She was such a wonderful and creative being. I'm thankful she no longer has to endure the physical struggles she encountered toward the end. But I sure do miss her greatly and selfishly wish she was here still. Especially today.
Thanksgiving was her holiday. She always put on a lavish bountiful feast. Amazing food and drink, shared by the company of many an outcast. A truly wonder time. I am thankful for the many wonderful memories and experiences I shared with her. As painful as it is to write this, knowing thanksgivings here forth with be without her physical presence, charm and infectious smile. She will always have a special place in my heart, everyday, but
especially on thanksgiving.
We love and miss you!
